This shining landmark, formerly known as the General Electric Building, was modeled after the famous Electric Tower that awed crowds at Buffalo's 1901 Pan–Am Exposition (see photo above). It currently houses the offices of a local energy company, Niagara Mohawk, and remains a symbol of the importance of the abundant electricity from nearby Niagara Falls that powered Buffalo's great manufacturing facilities. The signature feature of this building is the central tower that is reminiscent of one of the wonders of the ancient world, the Pharos lighthouse of Alexandria, Egypt. The exterior of the building is covered in white sand lime and brick glazed terra cotta tiles. Depending on the time of year, the top of the tower may be bathed in ascending patriotic red, white and blue lights or a combination of holiday red and green. A ceremonial ball drop at the stroke of midnight New Year's Eve includes a spectacular fireworks display witnessed by thousands of revelers in nearby Roosevelt Square.

Turn around, head back to Main Street.
